George Plosker, the author of this blog, grew up in Queens, NY and traveled West after graduating from Queens College. After trying to find artistic success in music and photography, George attended graduate school at San Jose State University. This blog tells his story and shares his love for the things that make life richer.
George recently retired from full-time work where he was a pioneer of the online content industry. Plosker served in Client Services, Business Development and senior positions with the IEEE, 365 Media, and at Thomson Gale (formerly Information Access Company; now Gale: A Cengage Company) where he was Vice President of Content Support. In this position, George managed the companies search assistance, content support and training functions for all market segments. George was also responsible for providing internal support and training to Sales, Marketing, Product Management, Technology, and Production teams.
Before joining Thomson-Gale, George spent 14 years at DIALOG Information Services, Inc. (now ProQuest DIALOG), where he was a Marketing Representative and then founder and Regional Manager of the company’s Los Angeles office. George also served as a business and general reference librarian and bibliographic instruction specialist at San Jose State University. George has published over 30 articles in the professional literature and was a frequent speaker at information industry conferences.
In 2007, San Jose State University’s School of Library and Information Science (SLIS) named George a Distinguished Alumnus and one of its “40 most influential alumni.” Plosker was one of a few industry executives to be honored, including librarians, authors, and educators who have had a “profound impact in both the public and private sectors.”
